Das gängige Urteil situiert die Jugendweihe als ein Pendant zur evangelischen Konfirmation oder katholischen Firmung. Die vorliegende Hausarbeit versucht, anhand der Historie des Ritus Entwicklungstendenzen zu er- und begründen und die Zusammenhänge zwischen dem „profanen“ und „sakralen“ Ritual zu verdeutlichen.
Das deutsche Jugendweihephänomen wurde schon oft unter historischen Gesichtspunkten untersucht. Die bedeutendsten Autoren wie z.B. Thomas Gandow, Bo Hallberg oder Christian Fischer haben sich in ihren Studien meist an chronologischen Tendenzen und signifikanten Erscheinungen des Jugendweiheritus orientiert.
Die Betrachtung der Jugendweihe unter dem Aspekt der Ritualforschung wurde z.B. von Wilma Kauke durchgeführt. Deren Arbeit analysiert die Ritualität der Jugendweihe der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.
Die vorliegende Arbeit will in erster Linie die historische Entwicklung der Jugendweihe bis 1945 darlegen. Dazu soll in Kombination mit den Erkenntnissen der Ritualforschung auf einige bemerkenswerte Merkmale eingegangen werden, die die historische Genese des Jugendfestes charakterisieren.
Der eventuelle Wandel oder die Konstanz dieser Merkmale soll beschrieben, dokumentiert und analysiert werden.
Dabei sollen die Erkenntnisse und Analysekriterien der modernen Ritualforschung eine Stütze zum besseren Verständnis der Entwicklungsgeschichte der Jugendweihe sein.
Ich hoffe ebenfalls, die jeweilige Bedeutung der Jugendfeier für die Zeitgenossen in unterschiedlichen Epochen skizzieren zu können. Auch die Frage nach Entwicklungseinflüssen und Gründen für plötzliche Entwicklungsveränderungen kann mit Hilfe des rituellen Aspektes beantwortet werden. Das gewählte Thema erwies sich im Laufe der Bearbeitung als sehr umfangreich. Leider wurde der Rahmen einer Hausarbeit im Grundstudium eindeutig gesprengt.
